An electric acoustic guitar (or elecoustic for short) is by design an acoustic guitar fitted with pickups, a microphone, or transducers. In Electric-Acoustic Classical Guitars, the transducers and microphones are always used because conventional pickups are not capable of picking up vibrations of non-magnetic materials. The term is not synonymous with that of a semi-acoustic guitar, which is conceptually an electric guitar but with the addition of sound chambers within the guitar body. Usually, electric acoustic guitars are fitted with piezoelectric pickups, and hence require a preamplifier incorporated into the guitar body to amplify the signal before it travels to the main guitar amplifier. These preamps may also come with tone controls of varying types, but usually equalizers with up to six frequency bands are used. They are also referred to as a "plug-in acoustic guitar", due to their ability to simply "plug in" to a speaker system without the need for microphones. They are commonly used in folk and sometimes classical music as they possess the sound of an acoustic guitar but more volume if plugged into a speaker system. Artists such as Chris Tomlin, Matt Baker[disambiguation needed] and Tim Hughes use these guitars along with bands such as Hillsong, R.E.M. and Coldplay.

The buzz is getting out! In the March 2000 issue of Guitar One Magazine titled, "BEST IN THE U.S.", Monte Montgomery was chosen as one of The Best 10 (unknown) Guitarists in America. The article states: "Monte Montgomery was the first artist chosen for this column (the first to make our jaws drop!). His scorching yet musical solos, combined with great pop sensibility in his songwriting, are what cought our ear. But when you consider that he's playing those Van Halen-esque solos on an acoustic guitar with distortion, it becomes a slam dunk" - Guitar One Magazine.

CAGED Guitar System - How to Build and Use Chord Inversions and Arpeggio Patterns On the Fretboard. Acoustic and Electric Guitar Theory By Desi SernaCAGED Guitar System - How to Build and Use Chord Inversions and Arpeggio Patterns On the Fretboard. Acoustic and Electric Guitar Theory By Desi Serna

This video program is intended for intermediate to advanced level guitar players who are already comfortable using standard open and barre chords to play songs. You can sign up to view a free preview at the author's website.

There are literally thousands of different kinds of chords and chord shapes that can be played on the guitar, but did you know that most can be traced back to just 5 common open forms? The 5 forms are C, A, G, E, and D. What's that spell? Caged.

Each one of these chords can be barred and moved around the fretboard. Each bar chord can be played as a full arpeggio pattern which includes all possible chord tones in a given position. These arpeggio patterns can then be broken up into all sorts of chord inversions, shapes and voicings.

Topics covered include:

Creating moveable chord shapes Mapping out arpeggio patterns Playing partial chord shapes and inversions Connecting chords and covering the whole fretboard Playing progressions in different positions What CAGED songs you should look up and learn

Understanding how the guitar CAGED system works is essential for further chord construction and music theory study. And great rhythm guitar players don't necessarily use strange chords, they just know how to freshen up common progressions with unique shapes and interesting voicings.

This video program will teach you the CAGED system, how to use it and how each form relates to your favorite songs. The CAGED Template Chord System DVD is taught by music theory expert, guitar teacher and publisher Desi Serna and is based on Fretboard Theory Chapter 3. This lesson material is suitable for both acoustic and electric guitar.
